Yesterday, early Sunday evening (7:00 pm - ish MDT) I turned on KOA radio in Denver to see if a Rockies game was on. Instead there was a talk-radio host doing a show. The host took a caller, and the caller said that if Obama was elected, there would be a Civil War, and the host encouraged and laughed at the notion. The caller was not laughing. The two talked about a Civil War between Real Americans v. Liberals. When the caller hung up, the host continued with this fantasy, and asked whether, in a Civil War between Real Americans and The Liberal Left, you'd rather be fighting on the side of "Gunny Bob" (who is a right-wing weekday host for KOA and former marine) or Janeanne Garafolo. I was unaware of the Unitarian Church shooting until I read about it later last night.
Not only was it disgusting enough in its own right, but on the same day as the Unitarian Church shooting of "gays and liberals" in TN -- the topic was especially heinous. The host should be fired.
Here's a little bit about KOA. It is the station that broadcasts Denver Bronco football, Colorado Rockies baseball, and CU football, and is the largest AM radio station in Denver. It broadcasts a very powerful signal that I used to be able to receive on my car radio in Sioux City Iowa when I used to live there. KOA also have Rush and other local right-wing radio hosts throughout the week. Media Matters has their own Colorado chapter and blog highlighting KOA's atrocities http://colorado.mediamatters.org/... and I've given them a tip to last night's episode. Looking online at KOA's weekend schedule, the host appears to have been Mr. Sean Rima, but I turned the radio to another station before confirming the identity of the host, and it could have been someone else.
I've also contacted KOA, and would greatly appreciate your contacting them too. http://www.koaradio.com/...
When Obama is president, I fully expect the increase of home-grown right wing violence to escalate. We don't need our media inciting even further violence.
