It has been rumored for a while that this was in the works ... Luke Russert (son of the late Tim Russert is to join NBC News to cover youth issues during the 2008 election cycle. It will be nice to see a fresh new face on there.

Luke Russert, son of the late NBC Washington bureau chief, Tim Russert, will be covering the Democratic and Republican national conventions for NBC News this summer, the network announced today.
Russert, a June graduate of Boston College who grabbed the nation's heart during a week a memorial services following the unexpected death of his 58-yrear-old father, will focus on youth issues during the conventions.
According to the NYT, his first assignment will be at the Democratic National Convention in Denver at the end of August.

And he said he understood that some might challenge his claim to a network news job as simply the product of his famous name — "I’ve already heard that," he said.
"I definitely respect their opinion," Russert said. "They’re taking a chance on me, and I’m very humble and grateful for it. At the end of the day, I am my own hardest critic.
"... I’m not trying to be my father. He’s irreplaceable. I’m simply trying to do something that I think there’s a real niche for, that there’s a calling for, that has to do with youth, not just in the election but in politics from now on."
