To those who say it's a "dog whistle" for racists, I say you're wrong - it's absolutely not: it's a dog whistle for evangelicals/fundamentalists/end-of-times Christians in general, and it's a note so lost in the ethers you'd swear you're not hearing what you're sort of not hearing.
I watched the ad, prefaced by the diary writer here at Kos with ideas of subtly cloaked racism and "uppity black" accusations, and I didn't get those things from it, not at all. What I did get was the not-so-subtle message of a young man proclaiming himself "the One" and speaking with all the power of MLK while doing so. I got rallying cries to the masses from it, backdrops straight out of The Omen from it, and even (just in case we didn't get the message) the smiting hand of Moses - played by St. Heston the Unassailable - from it. It's a mainline message to the millions of Left Behind addicts out there, and it goes like this: Obama is the Antichrist. He says he's the One. You vote for him, you're voting for Satan. And that is that.
Just wanted to say that, and that I've never seen anything like this ad. It's so offensive, it's almost Saturday Night Live-esque, if that makes any sense. I really could not believe what I was watching, it's just the cheapest shot imaginable, a thing for the rankest gullibles among us.
I fear it will work. If you're open to it, it'll work real nice.
