Please just ask one simple question to both John McCain and the former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods (Woods is one of the former Attornys General leading the effort to exonerate Siegelman in Alabama):
Did John McCain “pressure” the then-Attorney General Grant Woods in 1996, to “lay off” on a state investigation into the then-Governor Fife Symington regarding his alleged corruption involving real estate dealings? And when Woods said, “no”, did John McCain physically touch Woods in a threatening manner and threaten him of political ruin if he didn’t lay off Symington?
All of this happened. How do I know? I was told this right to my face by Attorney General Grant Woods in 1998. Btw, isn’t trying to impede a lawful investigation a felony? Scooter Libby and many others in Washington have gone to prison for less. And if it ever came to that, I'd gladly testify or cop to this to the major media if asked to.
The story told to me was that McCain walked in Woods’ office (they were friendly at the time) in 1996 and presure Woods not to launch an AG investigation into Governor Fife Symington (btw, McCain and Fife were and are still now thisclose, they adore each other). When Woods told McCain, “no”, and that he had a duty of his office to investigate, McCain blew up with one his his countless mercurial tempers and jabbed his finger (hard) into Woods’ chest, telling him he better not investigate or their friendship as well as Woods’ future within the Republican Party would be “over.” When Woods replied that he had no choice but to do his duty, McCain then grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt and swore at him and told him he was “through” regarding being anything within the Republican Party.
McCain and Woods were enemies from that point on until patching things up just within the past couple of years. And Woods’ “future” within the AZ GOP was indeed “over.” He hasn’t held office there since. Btw, Fife Symington ended up resigning his governorship in disgrace after being indicted in 1997 and the then-Sec of State Jane Hull took over.
