By now you've all heard about John McCain pimping out his wife at the Sturgis Bike Rally. It's a little frustrating that it's not getting more (any?) play in the traditional media. So I think the Obama camp should help it along.
Thing is, how to bring it up without getting down in the muck oneself? I think the perfect person to push this out there would be Michelle Obama. How she might artfully do it after the break.
Imagined Michelle Obama comments re. McCain's tastelessness at Sturgis:
I would just like to take a moment to applaud my counterpart, Cindy McCain, for the strength she's shown in this contest, particularly this past week.
As you may have heard, she appeared with her husband at a bike rally in South Dakota, sharing the stage with a bikini contest. Actually, "bikini contest" is putting it very mildly. Senator McCain had joked that she should participate in this degrading contest.
Now, if Barack made such a suggestion to me - I probably would have thrown him off the stage! Of course, my Barack would never say such a thing; that's why I love him so much.
Anyway, I think Cindy really comported herself with such dignity and restraint, and I really admire her for that.
These comments might work better, say, to Oprah or on The View, rather than in a prepared statement. This puts it out there while keeping Michelle's & the campaign's hands clean.
And what could Cindy say in return? With Michelle being so sunshine and light to her, anything negative response would just make her look like an ice bitch. There's no mocking, no sarcasm, in this statement. Michelle isn't even criticizing Sen. McCain directly - it is all implied.
This would put it out there, and greatly increase the chance that Cindy is asked about the incident. And what could she say, that she wasn't offended by her husband's remarks? That would beg the question, why wasn't she offended? What is she, some sort of Stepford Wife? (I know we know the answer to that.) Of course, she couldn't say that she was offended, either.
And I think women voters, Hillary supporters, younger voters - heck, anyone who appreciates human dignity - would appreciate Michelle's offense at Fratboy John's juvenile, objectifying behavior.
