This video made it's debut around here sometime around March/April. The primaries were beginning to heat up and people around here were starting to think that maybe Obama was the real deal. The kool-aid was flowing but there was/is always the hesistancy, always the doubt and this video spoke to that.
Damn you Barack Obama you pretty motherfucker
Damn, damn, damn, damn you Barack Obama, sounds like Osama, don't make me mention your middle name, Hussein, his middle name is Hussein, what? Let me tell you something Mr. Senator, stop being so fucking charming, cut it out, we like that shit, strutting like Sidney Portier, killing the propaganda of politics with logic like Malcolm and finding common ground like Martin, you a pretty mother fucker, sucker, you think this country is ready for you, oh what, you gone make them ready for you, I downloaded your speech on youtubes, it was alright, actually it was more than alright it was fucking great, why you gotta be so eloquent, white folks mouths dropped in awe, black folks mouths smile with pride, why you gotta get everybody all worked up man! I broke down and I bought your book, it was alright, actually it was more than alright it was fucking fabulous, why you gotta be so prolific, paragraphs profound with remnants of Ralph Ellison, lines linger with a love of language and literature, you're a fascinating motherfucker.
And I got news for you, I hate to break it to you, but I made a vow to the heavens that if this dude ran man if this dude actually ran, I'd join a campaign. damn.
Dammit Barack! you pissed me off. Because you have me daring to believe in you. I worry about dog. Cause you know as well as I do that great peoples livespans don't last long. I catch myself saying prayers for you at night. Punk.
And I’m wondering when this honeymoon will hurtle to a halt. When will these expectations expire. When will your fame fickle to a frenzy as this country and it's people turn on you as they often do.
And I've seen the evils that leaders do. The fraction of faults folded behind business suits, under the presented nobility rest adultery, hypocrisy, corruption and contradiction. When will your demons come to light? When will your skeletons creep from the closet? slip and say the wrong things, start compromising yourself, your ideals, your integrity, until there is nothing left of you. Because you know as well as I do that great people with good intentions have lost their souls in the process, fighting for freedom but in the end settling for power.
But we're a needy people, see we demand so much of our leaders, we forget they're human beings, placing pedestals so high no mere mortal could reach them. Longing for saints when all we really want is someone to aspire to be like. To remind us that we can all be better but our hearts have been broken. It's as if we're learning to love again. Yet I still can't help but not have faith in you, not wish the best for you. So Damn You Barack. For turning this cynic into a believer in the ideal of the Audacity of Hope.
Damn you Obama.
Rhymes with Osama
You courageous,
intelligent
impressive,
distinguished,
pretty
motherfucker.
So I have sympathy and empathy for those who believed in Edwards like I believe in Obama. We all feel like we're standing on a precipice in this country, hoping and waiting for someone to pull us away from tragedy compounded by corruption and deception of our president. For many Democrats, Hillary represented that person, for some it was Edwards and for others it was Obama.
Our hearts are invested and to put in all the time and money we put in on a daily basis to push our candidate to the top, you really have to believe that they're the best thing since sliced bread. You don't quit your job, travel cross-country and knock on stranger's door for no money if you think the guy has some moral deficits. So
we demand so much of our leaders, we forget they're human beings, placing pedestals so high no mere mortal could reach them. Longing for saints when all we really want is someone to aspire to be like.
John Edwards stands next to his pedestal today. He's shown to be what he always was: a flawed human being. Barack Obama is somewhere near his pedestal somedays he stands way above it some days next to it and on others he's under it in the eyes of his supporters. I hold my breathe whenever the pedestal in my vision sways. I just pray that it doesn't knock him over!
Edwards admitted falling victim to thinking he was "special". I'm pretty sure that Obama feels "special" too somedays. The thing that attracts me most to this campaign is the corny phrase that "We are the change that we've been waiting for" If we truly believe that then these pedestals will fall away and although we'll always have a need for leaders, we'll lose this need for "heroes". If this campaign was more about ideas and a vision for this country then nothing would be able to tear the voters away for choosing a better future for themselves and their children.
But we're not there yet. So Damn You John Edwards, you pretty mother-fucker.
Seriously y'all, we've got work to do.
