21 years age, after having dropped out of law school & gone into debt to be a full time organizer/staffer for him three years before, my candidate Gary Hart was exposed by the Miami Herald & National Enquirer, as a guy who had cheated on his wife & the rest of us. About a decade later, as a country, we went though the all too fresh partisan impeachment over an episode of sex & lies. I've seen & lived this story before and my heart really does go out to the hundreds of people who worked so hard for the Edwards Campaign. My advice is to grieve, cry, live, learn & grow. Your campaign was not really about John Edwards just as my campaign way back in the 1980's was not about Gary Hart.
We all put a lot of faith in politicians around here. We argue, donate and give our most precious gift of time. The only things that matter are principles & accomplishments. John Edwards is not going to be the last politician to show that he is a sinner and flawed person. Ministers, media people, clerks, teachers, nurses and construction workers are flawed too. We all are but it still stings so hard when you really give your heart, your wallet and your life to a politician who fails in this way.
Anyway, I hope Edwards supporters are darn proud of what they worked for and what they stood for. John Edwards disappointed you and us but Edwards supporters are an example for everyone who gives a damm about the "Two Americas." Hold your heads up and always be skeptical about politicians but never lose your passion for principles.
