They Say They Were Born in the U.S.A
The State Department Says Prove It
An Old Scam Casts Doubt on the Citizenship Of Texans Delivered by Midwives
Should read: An Old Scam: Cast Doubt on Citizenship
In the story in the Wall Street Journal, Juan Aranda of Weslaco, Texas has been denied a passport from the State Department. Because, they say he was delivered by a midwife.
The State Department has taken to making citizens of Texan prove they're American. Is this a case of immigrant until proven guilty?
Apparently, a birth certificate, school records, and church documents are not enough. Apparently, even being a border patrol officer isn't enough, or being a productive member of society.
to the U.S. State Department, all that black and white looks a lot like gray. It recently refused to issue Mr. Aranda a passport; the government isn't sure he's an American.
Oh, and just so we know:
the agency denies that it is targeting Hispanics
I'm sure that they aren't singled out specifically. I mean, this is about midwives scams.
According to the Brownsville Herald:
Between 1960 to 2008, more than 75 South Texas midwives were convicted of signing birth certificates for children they did not deliver....
So, let's see over a span of almost 50 years, a whole 75 were convicted. One or two convictions a year, and a whole population is in doubt?
It certainly couldn't be that they are singling out the poor, the disadvantaged, and those god-damn hippie water birth types.
