So John McCain is touring the country talking about the state of the economy and feeling our pain while wearing a pair of 520 dollar Italian shoes. Five hundred twenty dollars for a pair of shoes? Jeez. Are these the most famous expensive shoes since OJ Simpson's 160 dollar Bruno Maglis? And OJ's shoes are cheap by comparison.
The best shoes I ever wore were a series of Sears work boots I bought in the 1970s. These are the closest contemporary equivalent; the ones from the 70s didn't have the padding at the back. Once broken in, they were super comfortable, waterproof (enough), and lasted a good year, even worn every day through Michigan winters. Well, sure, the sole eventually separated from the uppers at the toe, but all I had to do was sandwich a plastic trash bag between two pairs of socks, and the snow hardly bothered me at all. And at only about 10 bucks a pop, I could buy 52 pairs for the cost of a pair of Italian shoes.
So, what were the best shoes you ever wore? And for extra credit, also list the most expensive shoes you ever bought.
