...or 'Proof McCain's 'Celebrity' BS works
I just found out that my girlfriend of 11 months, and her family, are Republican. I know, I know...something I should have asked about alot sooner, right?
She actually takes liberal stances on a number of issues; I really beleive she would easily label herself a Democrat is she payed any attention at all. Pro-choice, vegetarian animal-activist, big on keeping religion out of schools, that sort of thing. A very bright girl with insane critical thinking skills and all. Just doesn't pay attention to politics. I don't really blame her because it certainly is a touchy subject, and indeed, sometimes I wish I wasn't so into it.
The biggest challenge here is that her family is her main source of information on politics and foreign policy stuff. One of the things my girlfriend is big on is guns. First off, she's a model; extremely beautiful, and has gotten into ugly situations with guys a couple times. She also lives in a robbery-prone neighborhood. Her family seem to have drilled in her head the notion that Obama is just an empty celbrity who wants to take all our guns away, and allow criminals shot on your property to sue you. Now, I pointed out that she herself is somewhat of a local celebrity, and there's nothing wrong with being popular. That didn't go well. I showed her proof of Obama's stance of responsible gun ownership. No dice there either.
Now, the future Mrs GreyXstar always holds my opinion in very high regard, so I think I can get through. So, good Kossacks of the Internets, I'm asking for advice. Should I just keep talking up why I support Obama? Or should I got with how she's really a Democrat but doesn't realize it? Or something else entirely?
Oh, and as much as some of us love belittling low-info types, please be kind. Thanks
