Or so they claim. How much of this is Keyboardist blustering, and how much of this is an authentic statement of conscience?
I have been pro-choice all my life - but I can totally see how someone whose mindset and value system literally equates abortion with murder, might say this and mean it.
Following is a look through Wingnutlandia's reactions to news items today that McCain might pick a pro-choice running mate:
Let's start with FreeRepublic -- home of those who are so right-winged that there's no common sense left:
He better rule out a Pro-Choice VP pick...or he can rule out the Presidency.
We shall see.
This Freeper seems a tad peeved about being asked to fall in line:
McCainbot cheerleaders and others who have bought in to the phony RINO bill of goods with the GOP this year, here on FR, will find SOME WAY to rationalize voting for McShamnesty, even with a pro-abortion VP candidate.
It will all be, again, bound up in fear of that big baaaaaaad wolf, Obama.
What a cruddy way to cast one's one vote (if given alternatives).
And what's that Law about the first one in an argument who references Hitler or the Holocaust? Here we are:
I don’t consider anyone really pro-life unless he regards being pro-abortion as a sign of wickedness.
Which means that, in my book, very few politicians are really pro-life. I can’t think of any "pro-life" politician—other than maybe Henry Hyde or Rick Santorum—who has never uttered the words, "There are good people on both sides of this issue."
Can you imagine any American ever saying, about Auschwitz or Dachau, "There are good people on both sides of this issue."
And there are plenty more that, in more colorful words, say this:
I have voted Republican for President all nine times I have had the chance. If McCain picks a pro-abort VP, that streak will end.
Now maybe Free Republic is a unique little viper's nest. Let's check out Lucianne.com to see how they are feeling about the idea of McCain choosing, say, Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman:
OK, is he actually TRYING to LOSE?!
If he goes for pro-abortion Ridge, I may stay home. I cannot support a ticket that has someone who is for killing babies. I do not trust McCain. Of course, Obambi is out of the question. He is totally immoral, ignorant, inexperienced, unqualified, etc., etc., etc.
Just when McPain was doing a GREAT job of showing some backbone and winning back conservatives ... comes THIS !
I'll be abstaining, as always, from voting for ANY pro-baby-killer candidate - and I bet I won't be the only one ...
... and on it goes. OK, in all fairness there are some moderate voices piping up on that thread as well. But collectively there is a big thumbs-down for Tom Ridge as VP pick, and they felt the same and worse about Lieberman the other day.
Doesn't sound good for McCain, if he chooses a pro-choice VP. But what do I know? Maybe for every wingnut he sheds, he gains a moderate/swing voter who is pro-choice.
Here, have a poll -
