We all will never forget Bush reading The Pet Goat while all hell was breaking loose on September 11th. How could anyone forget that day?Since then we have been diluged with 'Pet Goat' moments from this administration.Over and over again we have seen Bush both figuratively and literally absent himself from any crisis in this country. He is there in body most times but he continues to leave us, as a collective, in the lurch both figuratively and literally on all levels. Here comes a breath of fresh air. His name is Barack Obama and he practices high road politics.Jump...
We learned today that Hillary Clinton's name will be placed in nomination. Many people who are Obama supporters are upset by this but some are not. I fall into the 'not' category. Here is why.
I really believe that Obama is in this thing to win it and that his 'high road' politics approach is a clear eyed strategy to achieve his goal. Think about the person we have for our candidate. Look at all the decisions he has made thus far. Sometimes we might not understand why he makes these decisions because we are not privy to the inside track but my mom taught me to look at a person's actions and words for proof of the type of person they are. Looking at Mr. Obama's actions and words I see an honorable and a sensible man who is pragmatic and astute in his decision making. Look at how he has run his campaign. This week we saw released a whole slew of emails and memos from the Clinton campaign that showed how dysfunctional they really were. We also saw that Hillary Clinton was not a decisive and strong leader as she tried to portray herself to be. We also saw that she did not embrace the Penn strategy to take Obama down. I think that speaks to her character a bit and I say kudos to her.
Look at Obama. He has remained true to himself and his campaign reflects his character. My friends, welcome, there will be no 'pet goat' moments in this administration when he is elected. He is very present and sure of himself and his goals. Mr. Obama is confident, self-assured, respectful and will seek consensus instead of division and acrimony. He is truly a 'uniter' not a divider. The 'pet goat' President (George Bush) claimed to be a uniter but proved very quickly that he was really a divider and, per my moms advice, has not met the standard of actions matching words that he espoused in his run for the Presidency.Do any of you out there want another 'pet goat' presidency? I for one do not!!
Today when Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton released their statement about Mrs. Clinton's nomination I have to admit I felt a bit of anger. But when I looked at Mr. Obama's track record in this campaign I calmed down and realized that he knows what he is doing. Tonight those folk that have been complaining about Hillary not getting recognized have now been sidelined. Those who continue to malign Mr. Obama; those who contine to say he is not worthy of this nomination; those who continue to say he stole this nomination are now going to be considered as sore losers. They no longer have an argument, and will, if they try to disrupt the convention, will be seen as the crazy fringe of this party. Today Mr. Obama showed what kind of man he is. He showed that he is willing to lose a little to gain alot. In politics this says alot about a man's character and it tells me that I have chosen the right person to support in this election cycle.
So for those out there who decide to stand behind Mr. McCain and dare claim to be democrats even as they disparage Mr. Obama, you need to come clean and say exactly why you do not support Mr. Obama. I think you are not truly saying what your problem is and this is why you are not making any sense. If you are not man or woman enough to really say what your problem is (and make sense) then you do not deserve the time of day from rational thinking folk.
I for one want to see a President who will be present and take the high road, cutting his loses when he sees it is futile to continue, a President who will be present in body, soul, spirit and mind; a President who is smart, enlightened, and one who is evolving and changing with the times; a President who is flexible, engaging, intelligent, well-spoken; a President who has self-respect, who has dignity, class, vision and a President who, even though he has all these qualities, is humble enough to admit that he is an imperfect man who is just trying to do the right thing to bring our country back to a place of credibility in this world.I trust Mr. Obama and until he gives me reason to think otherwise I will continue to do so.
In essence I reject the past 8 years of 'Pet Goat' stategies and I embrace a new era and a new time. I look forward and am delighted to be on this high road with Mr. Obama.
I am proud to call myself a supporter and look forward to calling him Mr. President.
Peace.
