This evening, PBS's News Hour with Jim Lehrer held their weekly political discussion forum, this week with Ruth Marcus and Rich Lowry ... pontificating. During their seven minute or so discussion, at least half was spent discussing Russia's invasion Georgian territory and Secretary of State Rice's subsequent visit to negotiate a cease-fire. A ridiculous discussion went forth thusly:
Ruth Marcus began by arguing that John McCain had an excellent week because he stepped out first, before Mr. Obama - and even President Bush - in forming the correct policy that 'Russia is Bad.' Rich Lowry was happy to agree.
They then showed a video insert of John McCain speaking to an audience during a campaign rally. In this video, Mr. McCain said, paraphrasing:
"This is the twenty-first century. Nations don't just go invading other countries."
Mr. Lowry then came on camera for his reaction. He did not disagree. Jim Lehrer, somehow holding a completely straight face, then moved to Ms. Marcus and continued the discussion without ever once bringing up the obvious.
And the discussion, about mostly nothing, continued.
And continued.
And then they changed the subject.
My irony meter just exploded.
