I'm a wan member of the Democratic base. Wan, because I am politically starving, which leads to low energy, among other things.
So I hear there was a conversation about faith with a popular Christian preacher and both Presidential candidates attended.
I have nothing against conversations about faith, I'm not scared of such a conversation, nor do I have scorn for it.
On the other hand, I have no political use for it either. I think after almost eight years of the criminal Mr. Bush we all know that one can speak a whole lot about faith, but actions speak louder than words.
McCain and Obama were asked to participate in a New Orleans' sponsored YouTube Debate, but they were too busy. The Committee who chose the venues for the presidential debates passed over New Orleans as well.
There was an opportunity as well to participate in the 2008 Fort Hood Presidential Town Hall in front of our military. This was also sadly declined.
I am not a fool. I know this is politics, that McCain and Obama are trying to gain the evangelical vote which has been badly shaken in light of the behavior of Mister Bush and his minions.
Have to get the votes, yeah. Have to get the votes.
The closer it gets to the election, the more it hurts to see the Democratic base starved like this.
Not because I am a whiny ass titty baby who needs attention from the Democratic powers that be.
But because of the folks I speak to and read about every day who are hurting so bad, who would affirmatively respond to real attention coming from anyone in government, much less our Presidential candidates.
The families of the military deserve to ask our candidates some questions. The people of New Orleans deserve to ask our candidates some questions.
These people are an important part of who the Democratic base is concerned with. And every day they are ignored is another day of pain, another day of hurt, another burden to carry alone.
It's not something so simple as "morale." But that's the only word I can come up with at this time. I'm sure everyone has experienced it in greater or lesser forms -- how with high morale there isn't anything that can't be accomplished, even with meager resources, but with low morale, you can have a million bucks and tons of raw materials and not accomplish a damned thing.
So yeah, McCain and Obama are speaking of faith at a megachurch, for politics, yes, to get elected, to get the votes.
And the Democratic base is starving. This is not a complaint. This is a fact.
Just sayin'.
