I'm really thinking of swearing off DKos for a while.
I can't take the freakouts.
I can't take the sniping between Obama and Hillary supporters that is STILL taking place, even though unity is our most desperate and urgent need.
I can't take the people who have thrown in the towel already.
I can't take the idiots who say they won't vote for Obama ("I'll just leave it blank") because he doesn't agree with them 100% of the time.
I can't take the people who are crying and whining about how close the presidential election is who REFUSE to lift a finger to do ANYTHING to help.
There's more. A lot more.
I'm sick and tired of the VP diaries. Even just reading the titles is obnoxious.
I've had it with the people who say that if so and so is the VP, they won't vote.
And although the digressions and tangents comments on diaries often take are a part of DKos's weird charm, at times they're positively harmful, distracting from the messages of important diaries or degenerating into disgusting flame wars and personal insults. I swear to God, some people here just seem to have adult ADD.
I've further had it with people telling me that everything is on course. We need to acknowledge problems and DEAL WITH THEM in a focused and effective way. Not freak out about them. Not lash out blindly about them. But offer concrete, specific suggestions for ACTION.
Daily Kos is the largest Democratic/Progressive/Liberal site on the Internet. It has proven itself as a powerful tool. And yet, many of its users are not using its full potential. It's not enough to just vent (as I'm doing). We need to focus on DKos's many positive aspects, and use this powerful tool to:
- Run a registration drive.
- Take action to fight Republican vote suppression and electronic vote theft.
- Contribute money to Obama to keep his high powered campaign going
strong.
- Volunteer and canvass in your area.
- Circulate anti-McCain emails like these examples here.
- Pound the media with your emails, texts, and snail mail
- STOP BITCHING AND MOANING AND GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DO SOMETHING.
We need WARRIORS now. Become one. Stop cringing, stop whining, stop crying about how we're through, just stop all this childish bullshit NOW.
Above all, stop talking like the Republicans are 10 g-d damned feet tall. U.S. Grant, in the Civil War, barked at his generals that he was sick and tired about hearing what Robert E. Lee was going to do to them. He said, "I want to hear what you're going to do to him!"
Hubert Humphrey fell seven-tenths of one per cent short in 1968 after starting out 15 points behind. He lost because too many Democrats refused to help or just gave up. Al Gore won in 2000, but we let the Republicans take what was ours because we didn't have backbones of steel. John Kerry came from 11 points back in 2004 and fell just short. We were within ONE STATE of unseating Bush when Bush was still relatively strong.
So I might have to give up DKos for a while. We've got work to do, and I can't be distracted by people who are quitters.
WHEN ADULTS CONFRONT A PROBLEM, THEY ACT.
