This is, admittedly, a VERY short diary with a simple purpose. And although I hate short diaries, I thought this was the best way to get the information out.
Dish Network was named the "Official Satellite Provider" for the 2008 Democratic National Convention about a week ago. This was done mainly because Dish Network is based heavily in Denver, as opposed to DirecTV.
Because of this, there will be a live feed for all Dish Network subscribers on Channel 211 (it was just added today or late last night). The channel's name in the on-screen guide is "DNC08."
I think this is great so that we can watch every second of the convention on TV, without having to rely on what the networks think is important. No word on whether DirecTV or Comcast will be doing the same, but it is unlikely. Comcast will, however, be offering a simulcast during some portions of the Convention for Spanish-speaking audiences.
The Convention will also be streamed online at www.demconvention.com throughout the week, but we all know how servers/the internet/computers can be, so it's nice to be able to flip on the TV.
The broadcast will be in SD, not HD.
Again, sorry for the thin diary, but thought it was a nifty little piece of information that, in my opinion, seems to have been missed. I didn't even know about the channel until I was flipping through a few hours ago.
