Is there any doubt that the handwringing thorughout the blogosphere was unwarranted? I've argued in comments that the hard work would begin just after the convention in comments in other diaries.
OK, so I was a bit wrong. It's started before the convention, possibly by necessity, but I will argue that this was the plan all along. With all due respect, he set McCain up for this onslaught when he asked him for a "classy" campaign.
Fast forward to today. Obama hit him on his McMansions:
And on his definition of the Middle Class:
And more. The latter two being courtesy of the Jed Report:
My friends, I submit to you that it was the rope-a-dope. A boxing technique made famous by one Muhammad Ali. It's shrewd, intelligent and hopefully Obama will be able to deliver a knockout. Only time will tell.
But there is something else working here. The Greatest, per Keith Olbermann, will be in attendance when Obama makes his acceptance speech. For those too young to know who The Greatest is - he's one
Muhammad Ali an athlete who evolved from brash young man to enlightened soul with a conscience. I still remember the line from the black and white reports: "Ain't no Viet Cong ever done nothing to me." It wasn't as sweet as any of his rhymes made up before his boxing matches, but it was likely the most intelligent and heartfelt thing he's ever said.
Ali has avoided politics like the plague, perhaps because of his Vietnam War experience, but he will be in attendance at Denver. Only an appearance by Martin Luther King Jr. would have been more apropos.
UPDATE: This guy got it right. That's exactly what's going on here.
With Rezko, Ayers and Wright sure to follow, what the hell else does McCain have to smear with?
