With the GOP FINALLY getting the onslaught of ridicule they so rightly deserve, it's time to turn our attention toward the convention. Because in many ways, Obama is a transformative candidate, I would like to see a transformative convention that seals the deal with the American public. Without question, Americans are ready for change...now we can seal the deal by going with David Gergen's excellent idea of announcing some key candidates for positions within Obama's cabinet.
Like it or not, Obama is relatively new on the scene in American politics . Nominating a rock-solid cast of all stars to his cabinet would go a long way toward allaying any reticence among the slow-deciders out there.
I would like to see some permutation of the following happen at the convention:
Good evening, I am General Wesley Clark and Barack Obama has asked me to be his Vice-President. To the best of my abilities, I will be representing the men and women of the US Armed Forces and our Veterans of Foreign Wars. General Clark then explains to the American people why the GOP is a National Security DISASTER.
then
Good evening, I am Joe Biden and Barack Obama has asked me to be his Secretary of State. We will end this war, bring our troops home, and attack the root causes of terrorism, poverty, and despair.
Good evening, I am Bill Richardson and Barack Obama has asked me to be his Secretary of Energy. We will end our dependence on foreign oil and create millions of green jobs here at home.
Good evening, I am Al Gore and Barack Obama has asked me to explain to the American public just what the hell has been going on with media, information, and our Constitution these past eight years.
Good evening, I am Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has asked me to explain to the American public just what is at stake in this election and why it is diametrically insane for anyone who would support me NOT to support Obama.
Reminding Americans that Barack will have access to an unlimited number of high-powered advisors could seal the deal with risk-averse Americans. Additionally, were the GOP to try to replicate this, all they'd have to present would be old white millionaire men.
Then line these folks up on stage and say,"America, we represent the young, old, men, women, Hispanic, military....we're behind Barack Obama, America...are you?"
Key points: An Obama administration will be competent and will not only look like America, but will be comprised of folks who understand "people like me".
The GOP would blow a fuse and not have a clue what to do.
