This is going to be a quick diary. The narrative over the last few days has been a discussion of McCain's housing crisis, e.g. he doesn't remember how many houses he owns...it's that many....what a crisis.
But in the queue should definitely be the agreement Sec. State Condoleeza Rice reached yesterday with the Iraqi government regarding the troop pullout timetable.
More below the fold.
Here is the link to the AFP story: In reversal, Bush to accept Iraq withdrawal timetable (AFP).
Why is this important?
McCain is running his entire campaign on the 100 Year Iraq War notion, and that it's winnable. He's attacked Obama in countless ways, just recently at the VFW convention (full transcript here):
And yet Senator Obama still cannot quite bring himself to admit his own failure in judgment. Nor has he been willing to heed the guidance of General Petraeus, or to listen to our troops on the ground when they say -- as they have said to me on my trips to Iraq: "Let us win, just let us win." Instead, Senator Obama commits the greater error of insisting that even in hindsight, he would oppose the surge. Even in retrospect, he would choose the path of retreat and failure for America over the path of success and victory. In short, both candidates in this election pledge to end this war and bring our troops home. The great difference is that I intend to win it first.
Really? Obama's judgment is so faulty that Condoleeza Rice and George W. Bush agree to a timetable for troop pullout?
His entire platform is continuance of the war for the benefit of the military-industrial complex. Let's take it to him again and again and show not only is he dead wrong, but in fact the U.S. policy has shifted in favor of Obama's position...because it is Obama's position.
UPDATE: Well, folks. This still hasn't come up in regular discourse, so I am updating it hoping it will get the visibility it rightly deserves, especially with what happened this morning on Morning Joe re: the Iraq pullout timetable. No one mentioned it was in alignment with Obama's plan at all. Rec it up, get people talking about this...PLEASE.
NOW WITH POLL.
