No. I'm not talking about foreign policy or military matters. How many diaries around here have you all written about Obama sucking on foreign policy? Not many - because Obama's foreign policy is spot on. What have the diaries been about (the ones critical of Obama)?
Obama's weakness is that he's not attacking McCain hard enough. Some of you will disagree on this point, but the debate is still there in a way that Obama's foreign policy cred is not. Biden will fill this gap. Biden can be a real attack dog in a way that Obama can not. As unfair as this is, if Obama were to say what Biden will say, he would be viewed as the 'angry black guy' - which would turn off a lot of voters.
Biden can show the level of outrage that this administration deserves. Even better, the people will empathize with him. Biden can be the symbol for America's anger at the government. He also calls out the bullshit in a way that nobody else does: "Noun, verb, 9/11." Even around here, we're taking cues from him. With McCain hilariously trying to use his POW experience to counter Housesgate, we're now using the phrase "Noun, verb, POW." His attacks sting.
That was Obama's weakness (whether by nature or by choice). And unlike the foreign policy issue, where picking a VP to fill the weakness only emphasizes it, picking a VP to fill this weakness makes him look nice and good by contrast.
Obama picked a winner here.
