Where I work - at Greenpeace International- we were watching the Obama choice of running mate closely, it's important. When we heard it was Biden I started getting some very excited messages from our nuclear campaigners. This is a man who understands just what's wrong with nuclear power and the risks involved. He's also the only person to ever take a nuclear weapon into the senate to make a point. Literally.
Our blogging here, more below the fold.
It seems that during his time on the Foreign Relations Committee Biden became concerned about how easy it was to build a nuclear device. He put his concerns to the test by asking the national laboratories to build an 'off the shelf nuclear device'.
They succeeded, and after his senate colleagues failed to show up at an event organised to display the bomb he had it brought into the Senate. The device was apparently assembled from entirely legal components, and only needed the addition of nuclear material to be complete. That's the kind of direct communication we can really appreciate.
As a bonus, here's a YouTube of Biden talking about the need to regulate Nuclear Power more effectively
I particularly like the 'watchdogs not housedogs' line.
