I registered to vote today!
I live in one of the racist red state on the planet but I will vote early and often for Obama, it's the Chicago way.
No seriously, I made a comment in another diary about my experience at the DMV. Then it dawned on me that a lot of people were there to transfer their DL from another state to LA. It also dawned on me that the office could be dysfunctional just to discourage people from getting new DL or ID’s thus not having proper ID you can’t register to vote, hard to prove but a thought nonetheless.
I’ve been illegally driving around for over a year and a half with a valid IL driver’s license. I didn’t want to part with it because it felt like I would be setting up roots in this god forsaken place and besides the photo was so damn cute.
Though Louisiana is a blood red state and will never turn blue. I wanted to add a little blue to the mix to make it a little purple AND I wanted to partake in this historical election. I didn't want to have to explain to my future kids. Oh yes I remember that important election but I didn't participate because of the lazy people at the DMV.
I have attempted to get my DL several times within the last month. Each time I went the line was out the door and the room was full to capacity. The Louisiana DMV is an unorganized mess.
Talk about a group of people who took NO PRIDE in their work. They were your typical government workers, lazy and completely worthless. Gov. Jindal should look into starting with the basics with his employees, they need an attitude adjustment or an injection of vitimins to give them some energy.
So, I took off from work today and went with a book and my ipod to get my LA drivers license and to register to vote. I knew from my previous DMV visits I was instore for a LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG wait but come hell or high water I was going to get this done, TODAY!!!!
I got to the DMV at 11:40 am and didn’t leave until 1:40 p.m. It took me 2 hours, 2 freakin hours from beginning to end but I was determined to get my driver’s license and to register to vote and finally success.
Now I'm all set to vote for Obama in one of the most racist red states in America. Don't believe me read some of these comments and help fight the ignorance.

Obama won’t turn the state blue however because this is the first national election since the redistribution of the residents and the relocation of thousands of others into the region who have moved here for work, I began to wonder if it will change the voting results in Louisiana or the south for that matter.
There are still thousands of displaced Louisianan’s in Texas, MS, AL and GA. However there are tons of people like me who moved here and are now eligable to vote.
