In the past week, the Obama campaign demonstrated that it is willing to hit McCain hard when the opportunities present themselves.
I think that well is quite deep. From the economy to gas prices to the war in Iraq and national security in general, McCain has been "Johnny-on-the-spot" for whatever side of the issue is important to the particular group he happens to be addressing.
This week, he trotted out two endorsements that highlight his "flip-floppery" with glowing red, neon signs.
First, is Debra Bartoshevich, the former Clinton convention delegate, who was so upset that Obama beat her candidate that she is willing to betray all of the values that she claims to believe in.
As a former Dean supporter in 2004 and Bradley supporter in 2000 (yep, I was the one), I am appalled by her inability to get over it.
However, her stated reason is that she believes that McCain is pro-choice. Really?
Well, we all know the truth about that, and there is plenty of video evidence to back it up (see Saddleback of just a week ago).
Second, yesterday, Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee came out with his endorsement of McCain because he believes that "He’s been a fighter for the Hispanic community ... he’s been a fighter for the immigration issue."
Once again I saw. Really? Maybe back in his Maverick(TM) days he made some noise about immigration reform, but now? Here is the Media Matters link to McCain's continued post-presumptive nomination reversal on immigration.
Personally, I am one who believes that politicians are allowed to changed their minds on issues. When circumstances or facts change, so should positions. However, when those positions change for the sole purpose of wanting to become President under any circumstance - I believe McCain said it best - it's putting personal ambition ahead of country, and McCain is as guilty as hell.
I have no gift of graphic design or video production, but the material is there in abundance and the well is deep.
They used it against us in 2004, I say what is good for the goose...
