It used to be that the convention for a major party was their big chance to outline their platform and to state their goals. It was a chance for them to make their case to the American people for their candidate and policy agenda to lead the party into the election. To say I'm disgusted by the majority of media's handling of the DNC is to severely understate the case. It's not just painful and pathetic, it's downright criminal.
Once upon a time the conventions were used to outline a party's agenda and to give a firm introduction to the nominee. Professional journalists would cover the event, report on the policy and agenda's of the parties and interview party stalwarts asking questions about policy and the effects the policy would have. They would ask tough policy questions (Yes Senator, but what do you say to critics who think your tax plan would ... I see Governor but wouldn't your education plan mean ...)and actually inform the public on how the candidate would actually govern and what strengths and weaknesses their agenda's had.
So what do we get now? Crap. Complete and utter crap. Horse race and nothing but horse race. "How do you think the delivery of the speech will affect white left handed construction workers with lisps named Carl in West Virginia Campbell? Out of the six Carl's polled only 2 voted for him in the primary." I swear to god I could scream watching this pulp.
Wolf, Chris, Brian, Britt, all of you; BE JOURNALISTS. Your job is to report news, not opinion. The reason you are protected under the 1st Ammendment is because we need you to inform us of facts, not conjecture and speculation. Now we all know that your standards have fallen to levels that would make the National Enquirer blush but come on. This may be the most important election you will ever cover in your careers. There is history being made here and the best you have is discussion on how Michelle Obama's green dress went over with soccer moms? Are you fucking kidding me? We need you to do better. I'm begging you. Do your damn job.
