If everyone could take a moment from the diaries regarding the DNC to read the following article in the New York Times today:
http://www.nytimes.com/...
The word needs to spread around this country that the Taliban is back in full force in Afghanistan. I wrote back in June how they broke 900 inmates out of a Kandahar jail and, in the process, reduced half of the jail to rubble. Incredibly, that entire jail had 10 guards and 1400 Taliban prisoners. Pictures are available in the article linked above.
The article states pretty explicitly that the government of President Hamid Karzai is so weak and ineffective that if the Taliban had wanted to, they could have seized control of the city of Kandahar on the night of the prison break.
Violence has surged in Afghanistan this year as the Taliban have stepped up their campaign of guerrilla attacks backed by suicide and roadside bombs to oust the pro-Western Afghan government and drive out foreign troops. The lack of a response from the US and other foreign countries to that prison break has only encouraged the Taliban and devastated our local support in that city and in the rural areas.
We don't have enough troops on the ground in Afghanistan. We are losing more of our soldiers there than in Iraq but the MSM can't get off their Clinton-Obama disunity talking points. It is disgusting. The Taliban supported OBL, they gave him shelter and they are the actual radical Islamic fundamentalist we should be concerned about - not the Iraqis. Either we finish the job and focus all of our resources on Afghanistan or get our men and women out of harm's way and bring them all home.
