Unisys proudly announced yesterday that it is the official IT provider of the Repub Convention in St. Paul. Which is appropriate, as the company epitomizes the future of the U.S. economy under a McCain presidency.
Unisys has been outsourcing thousands of its own jobs to India over the past several years, while undergoing massive layoffs. Unisys also previously paid Abramoff about $640,000 to lobby for a defense contract. Unisys was then investigated for overbilling the DHS for at least 171,000 hours on the contract. More of the same, indeed.
Unisys (in its current iteration) is, as you probably know, an IT outsourcing firm based in Pennsylvania that has ironically been outsourcing thousands of its own jobs to India over the past several years, while undergoing massive layoffs. See here("In eliminating the jobs, Unisys said it expected to rely more heavily on lower-paid workers in Asia and Eastern Europe."); and here; and here.
Notably, Unisys was a client of McCain's BFF Jack Abramoff, paying Abramoff and his firm $640,000 to lobby the DHS for a defense contract.
Even more notably, Unisys was then investigated for overbilling the DHS for 171,000 hours of work on the $1-3 billion contract. The company ultimately lost the contract.
The Unisys/Abramoff connection came up in the 2006 race between Republican Jim Gerlach and Democratic Challenger and Kossack favorite Lois Murphy in PA's 6th District.
Finally, as if the above is not enough, a heartwarming story of how McCain's BFFs at DHL and Unisys conspired to deprive laid off workers of their seniority and severance.
Unisys had serious corruption scandals in its past, too, although those may be ancient history.
In short, McCain's Ohio DHL problem should be joined by a Pennyslvania Unisys problem and should contribute to a nationwide Jack Abramoff problem. If anyone really cares to look into it.
