Yesterday, I posed this riddle as a comment, and the response was quite positive. It was suggested that it get greater exposure, and so I am making it a diary. This was going to be a short diary, because there's a simple answer to this riddle. However, I like to put some content in the diary like one is supoosed to do. You will have to go below the fold for the answer while I go off on a tangent.
On Tuesday, Paul Begala posted an article on the Huffing Post (that's what I call it because that's often what I think they must be doing over there), in which he called for the Democrats to go seriously negative on McCain. Now I don't have much of a problem with that, but he said something else that struck me as odd. He claimed that after Hillary suspended her campaign he sent a check to the Obama campaign with the memo "FOR NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING ONLY" on it.
Hmmmm
I don't mean to sound cynical (aw, who am I kidding, of course I'm cynical), but I am having a hard time believing it. I tend to think it was simply a rhetorical flourish. Still, I don't think it would be too much to ask for some proof regarding this check memo.
I posted a comment on Huffing Post asking Mr. Begala to provide a copy of that check, but I do not think that my comment was published, because I did a search and couldn't find it. That doesn't surprise me, because I believe I am persona non grata at Huffing Post.
So, I am using this forum to again request Mr. Begala provide a copy of the check showing that caption in the memo portion. He can blur the account number and any other non-public information, and I will be satisfied. My gut tells me he won't be doing it.
I would guess that the Obama campaign makes pictures of each check it recieves, so it might be possible to verify whether Mr. Begala did in fact put such a memo on his check. Does anyone know that for a fact?
I just think that if he is going to make such a statement, he ought to be able to back it up with physical evidence. Otherwise, I don't think it's helpful, especially if it's not true, and snarky jerks such as I start checking into it.
Anyway, I'm done now, and here's the answer to the riddle.
