Cindy McCain is in the country of Georgia. Are you freaking kidding me?!?
There is so much going on today (historic acceptance speech by Obama, the impending VP announcement by McCain, day-after analysis of great speeches by Joe Biden, President Clinton, and John Kerry, the fact that John McCain’s Health Care Advisor made a historically inane proposal about the uninsured and that they should be the lowest priority for health care providers, Tropical Storm/Hurricane Gustav, the faux Republican mockery of the stage set at Invesco Field, McCain’s "HANG" ad...) that I understand why the following may be lost, but seriously:
From Politico
Friends say he [McCain] has told his inner circle of his pick, but won't call the decision official until he has discussed it with his wife, Cindy, who has been in the country of Georgia.
and
She'll meet with Georgia President Mikheil Sakaasvili -- who Sen McCain has been in near-daily contact with since the outbreak of violence -- and visit wounded Georgian soldiers during the three-day visit.
So, let me get this straight... A Beer Heiress with ZERO experience in government, foreign policy, military experience, diplomatic experience, or anything except receiving an inheritance and managing an annual quarter-of-a-million dollars budget for domestic help is now acting as a surrogate for McCain (and by extension) the McCain Campaign (and by extension) the Republican Party, (and by extension) the Bush Administration -- on one of the biggest flashpoint regions in the world?!?!
Of course, she's on a "humanitarian" mission, that's what. And no further details. So why exactly is she meeting with Sakaasvili? Selling beer? Investing in mini-malls?
Talk about cronyism to the nth degree. She has no experience in these matters. There is already a history of Sakaasvili clearly mis-reading or mis-judging the desires of the NeoCons and driving his country into war. What new, tempting NeoCon sweet nothings is she whispering into his ear? Since he has already shown a proclivity to responding to them, will this Cindy McCain-Sakaasvili love fest drive us further into a crisis?
Talk about presumptive. Is actual foreign policy on Georgia now being conducted by McCain... or rather McCain's wife? Is this how McCain will handle foreign policy? Last time I counted there was still a couple months to go before the election.
In fact, has this visit been cleared – or given special attention -- by the State Department or Sec. of State Rice? Is this what we can expect from his so-called experience?
Watch this be a central part of "Cindy's Story" -- the re-marketing of Cindy McCain at the Republican National Convention. A Beer Heiress with 10 houses and a quarter of a million dollars to spend on butlers and maids? Oh, no... she's really a brave, brave humanitarian.
Just imagine the total eye-numbing, ear-bleeding, shrill hissy fit of a temper tantrum that would happen from the Republican Party if Michelle Obama went as an Obama foreign policy surrogate to the country of Georgia and met with Sakaasvili.
She, at least, has a law degree.
