The other night, after Ted Kennedy's terrific and heroic speech our beloved Keith Olbermann said that "we have finally seen a Kennedy son grow old." It was so touching because finally our royal family had come full circle.
However, I believe tonight we have seen another grow old. In tonight's speech, Bobby Kennedy's message has come full circle. I often sit and wonder the shape this country would have taken with RFK as President. The disasters we could have avoided. Bobby followed by McGovern followed by Carter.
My father was 12 when Bobby was shot. He was a young teen when he saw MLK fall. He remembers my grandmother at the table crying when Jackie was killed. Tonight he asked me what I thought about this speech. I could hardly answer him, I was choked up. All I managed at the time was "If we can not elect this man president..." before I trailed off. He said that was more than he could say. His entire life has been spent blaming the failures of Republican politicians. I'm so happy that for once in both our lives we have a chance to stop this. I am young, only twenty, so I may be out of line, yet; I feel that today, Bobbby's populist, progressive words were born again.
We can not afford to let them die once more.
