We’ve lost our bearings. We snap to attention when the party of steel yanks our chain with reports of Islamic threats or its fresh new face. I mean Gov. Palin, drill, kill and block. Drill everywhere, kill those Muslims and Russkies who disrespect us and block all abortions.
Joseph Stalin, The Man of Steel, was never elected. Sarah Barracuda, the lady of steel, wants to be elected. After all, she’s got ovaries, and she will cut taxes.
Americans love video war games. Violent video games are common in Japan but there is little violent crime. Japan doesn’t have violent libertarians like Palin, the lady of steel. We cheer as our leaders aggressively expand "America's Superpower War Machine," a relentless machine that needs a steady diet of wars and threats, feeding on itself, directing money from health and education to corporations like Blackwater, Raytheon and Halliburton. As Paul Farrell put it, http://www.marketwatch.com/...
• Why else are Americans eager and willing to surrender 54% of their tax dollars to a war machine, which consumes 47% of the world's total military budgets?
• Why are there more civilian mercenaries working for no-bid private contractors than the total number of uniformed soldiers in Iraq (180,000 to 160,000), costing taxpayers more than $200 billion and climbing daily?
• Why did we smile when Dubya Bush told us he is a "war president;" and impulsive old John McCain sang "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran,”
• Why did spineless Democrats like Hoyer and Pelosi let an incompetent, clumsy executive branch hide hundreds of billions of war costs in sneaky "supplemental appropriations" that are more crooked than Enron's off-balance-sheet deals?
• Why did Dubya Bush and Warmonger McCain resist a new GI Bill because, as they said, our military might quit and go to college rather than re-enlist in the war?
This is no accident. Every man and woman with a gun and everyone for herself adds up to endless war, and not just overseas. I wasn’t pleased with Biden’s threats to hold Russia responsible for the problem in Georgia (who invaded South Ossetia?), but I consider him to be an adult. We can’t improve health, education and infrastructure until we prune the pentagon budget. Middle class tax cuts are irrelevant, there simply isn’t enough money. Do you think that Congressional Democrats can do that?
Who is screaming about the possible cancellation of the DDG-1000 super destroyers, which are vulnerable to old-fashioned missiles and no help at all in the Middle East or Asia? Why, it’s the lion himself, Ted Kennedy, and his New England friends. http://www.myphl17.com/...
Kennedy's constituents include defense firm Raytheon, which builds the DDG-1000's electronics. The DDG-1000's industrial base includes more states than that for the cheaper Burke class. "Sub-contractors from all across the nation lose big" if the super expensive DDG-1000 is shut down, see http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/...
Yes, Virginia, we have a problem and it goes beyond the lady of steel.
