The Republicans are going to have a minimal convention today as Gustav ravages New Orleans. The following week could have been written by Aaron Sorkin. Not only is a black man the Democratic nominee for President and John McCain selected a woman, Palin as VP, but a hurricane is striking the New Orleans again at the same time as the Republican convention. You can't write this stuff!
But does this help or hurt the Democratic cause?
Tonight George Bush was scheduled to speak at the GOP convention. Imagine that scene! All the Republicans together listening to the worst president in American history give his reasons why John McCain should become president.
Sigh.
I for one believe the Republican Convention would have given the rethugs a reverse bump. Imagine all the Senators, congressmen, and governors that would have skipped the convention simply because they don't want to be associated as Republican.
We have been spared a week of Obama bashing, but Hurricane Gustav may actually (perversely) helped McCain as he uses this as a photo op (yeah he uses a natural disaster as a photo op but that's John McCain putting country first).
What is the consensus on this? Should we be saddened or happy at no Republican Convention (well truncated) this year?
