Last Friday I hopped and skipped out of the local Obama office holding my very first bumper sticker (well, ok, maybe I didn't actually hop and skip.) I lovingly placed the sticker on my left bumper. Whoever tailgated me could obviously see that I supported OBAMA '08. I had previously been against bumper stickers, but I realized that when I saw other people with Obama stickers I became overjoyed, so I decided to spread this joy among other Obama fans.
Problem: I have a catering job, and I was going to spend this weekend working at the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) championships in Clermont, Indiana. Drag racing draws rednecks from all over, and driving into work I saw plates from Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and Tennessee. Despite what people say about conservatives and family values, as a young single woman I felt afraid for my safety as I walked around by myself. Fat, drunken men made disgusting passes at me all over the place as I made the long, trudging walk back to my car.
After the second day of serving bratwursts and baked beans to this crowd, I had had enough. Watching cars be loud and fast isn't appealing to me, so I started to head home. I was making the walk back to my car, and when I finally got to it I realized that my bumper sticker was gone. It had totally disappeared. One of the rednecks had defaced my property. Luckily they didn't do something MORE to my car.
Conservatives suck, and this crowd didn't have a single progressive in it. You can bet they worship Ronald Reagan, and all of them vote on the issues of God, Guns, and Gays. All of them are also misogynistic.
So would an Obama presidency change things? Let's hope so. Today I'm stopping by the Obama office to apply for an internship, and you should too. :)
