First, I agree with Barack Obama: teenage girls can give birth to children who later become successful in life. I also feel Governor Palin's family is off limits. This does not mean, however, Senator McCain should not have considered Sarah Palin's family when making his Vice Presidential choice. Senator Macain's choice of Sarah Palin for Vice President tells us volumes about McCain's decision making process.
The McCain campaign says Sarah Palin was vetted thoroughly. If she was then surely Senator McCain and his senior staff knew Bristol Palin is pregnant. Additionally, they also knew Sarah Palin gave birth to a child with Down's Syndrome this past spring. Senator McCain gave no consideration to the stress Governor Palin's family must be under. Based on reports Ms Palin is someone with drive who feels she is capable of a career and a family. I say more power to her. But the McCain camp chose Ms Palin to be Vice President of the United States! I do not care if your are super Mom - a teenage pregnancy and a child with Down's Syndrome in the same year is enough.
It is typical of the Republican Party: they talk the talk but when the chips are down they cannot stand by their own values. This is not about Governor Palin. It is about Senator McCain's decision and it seems clear to me he does not really care about Ms Palin, her family or the American people. Senator McCain only cares about being President. Only a few short weeks ago he criticized Senator Barack Obama for being too ambitious. What does Senator McCain's Vice President Pick say about him?
Currently, our great nation faces the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression. We are fighting two wars and our military is frighteningly over stretched. We face chaos in Africa and a resurgent Russia who is challenging us on the world stage. At home wages are stagnant, jobs are being cut in the manufacturing sector, and gas prices are causing families across the country financial pain. Senator McCain chose Governor Sarah Palin to be his Vice Presidential running mate. I wonder if John McCain is up for the job.
