This may not constitute a diary to some, but I need to get this off my chest so if you don't like it, well tough. I hardly write diaries.
The first time I heard of Politico.com was when they took part in the democratic primary debate, co-hosted with CNN and the L.A. Times. Since then I have noticed their reporting referenced time and again in various blogs, diaries, etc.
After the debate, I assumed they must have had some kind of credibility to be co-hosting such a high profile event, so begin checking the site out as part of my usual innernet reading. Soon, however, I got the impression that the overall "feel" of the site was right leaning. Many of the articles seemed slanted to the right and a vast majority of the comments were either blatantly conservative or conservatives masking themselves as Independents.
Still, occasionally, I find myself drawn back to the site, thinking perhaps I was not judging the site fairly. Thinking perhaps I needed to give their editors another chance.
Tonight was one of those nights. And tonight, I think, I have come to the conclusion that the site is off tilt. Follow me below the fold and help me determine if I can trust my own lying eyes.
First, A Screenshot from about midnight, Sept 1st/2nd, 2008:
McCain's V.P. pick is one that is looking increasingly unpopular. It's also becoming clear Governor Palin was hastily vetted and, as a result, new 'revelations' are cropping up with alarming regularity.
Yet, Politico's analysis is that all this is a good thing for McCain!?
Then there's a story about how Obama's post-convention bounce isn't good enough, I guess. A story about McCain's 'maverick' V.P. pick stunning the 'liberal' Media. A story about those naughty protesters in St. Paul disrupting the RNC (with no mention of Amy Goodman or the police-state-like lock down in that city). And what seems to be a fluff piece about Mrs. McCain and Mrs. Bush (though, in all fairness, I suppose that is RNC coverage).
Is it just me? Am I nuts? Is the Politco really a balanced, serious source of information and I continue to hit it on the off days? Or is it as slanted and unreliable as I think it is?
Like I said, other than the occasional column, I do not see or visit the site regularly.
So help me out here! Am I slanted, or is Politico?
