Members of my white republican family are very excited about McCain's choice for VP, Sarah Palin. She's a straight talker, blah, blah, blah.
The republican females are especially delighted. And once news broke of Palin's teenage daughter being pregnant and unwed they all rose up in chorus to declare that the families of politicians should be off limits. Then, out of the other side of their mouths, they talked about what a great symbol of morality this unwed, teenager's pregnancy is for those who support the pro-life "movement."
So, for a few minutes, everything at the Labor Day family get together was rainbows and kittens until I asked this question of my family:
Would you be saying the same thing if the unwed, pregnant teenager was one of Barack Obama's African American daughters?
Que sound of crickets ... or is silence to such a question the sound racism makes? <snark>
