Those of us on the central gulf coast of Florida have been the spared the wrath of two hurricanes in the past two weeks. We have, however, had to endure the wrath of two commercials from GOP nutter butter Vern Buchanan.
Vern's first ad, Broken, should be called Jokin'. My diary on that hot mess is here.
Vern's second and most recent ad - I saw it today - is called "Factory Floor". Ironic since Vern has prob never stepped foot on a factory floor except to be in a photo op. In it, we get a nostalgic look at Vern's family and his working-class roots. Vern, the 5th richest man in the US Congress, talks about living paycheck to paycheck. Next, Vern talks about his record in the House - worthless blather. Finally, he expresses his support for tax cuts for working families and small business - a line taken directly from any Democratic campaign of the past 40 years.
What Vern doesn't mention is that he is a Republican, he's a 95% w/Bush man, he's very out of touch with working families and he is the proverbial strap in Dubya's flight suit.
Seriously, I'm surprised Vern didn't just stand in front of the camera and say, "I'm a Democrat". But this is no surprise. This isn't the first election season reinvention of oneself we've ever seen.
But what is most troubling is that a far superior candidate, Christine Jennings, could be in danger of losing due to a money disadvantage. Vern has very deep pockets so he can run these ads constantly. We need to see the Dem response on the air - asap.
Two immediate solutions: the DCCC has identifed the race as a winnable seat. I hope they start pumping some $$ into this race soon.
Also, I think Christine Jennings would make a great Orange to Blue candidate. Donations? Thoughts?
