It just occurred to me, listening to the rightwingnuts blather on about Palin's job experience - especially the line that her stint as governor of Alaska qualifies as command experience - that we should embrace that obviously flawed line of logic. As long as we twist it mercilessly, anyways.
Okay here we go:
- Jimmy Carter was Governor of Georgia for four years (through January 1975) so he gets 4 CiC (Commander in Chief) units. Since this is rightwing kool-aid we're drinking his presidential experience doesn't count. I mean, who did he wiretap?
- Michael Dukakis was Governor of Massachusetts for four years, then later for five more before he became the nominee so he earns a whopping 9 CiC units.
- Sarah Palin was heading up Alaska for a year and a half, making all those important national guard decisions about where to deploy them. Or at least knowing that all those important national guard decisions were made. By someone else.
The math is easy. 1.5/4 = 3/8. 1.5/9 = 3/18 = 1/6.
So the next time anyone mentions that little white lie about her commander in chief credentials, tell them they're absolutely right. Palin has command experience; almost half the experience of Jimmy Carter. And remember Dukakis in the tank? He only had six times as much command experience as the chromosome candidate herself.
