This is to members of this site: As per the rules, I will not call you out by name - but you already know who you are.
Thank you.
I really mean that, thank you. Thank you for being the people you are, for rallying for your causes - whether they be political or community-based. I've honestly never known a group of people quite like you.
Some of you may know that I used to write a series of diaries on poverty; I recently came out of bone-crushing poverty. I lived in a ghetto, but then I became fortunate enough to have the opportunity to buy a mobile home.
The place I bought was a dream come true, but it was transportation dependent. For a while, it seemed to work. Until my car gave out.
I desperately worked to get some money together; the little bit I had in savings was just that - a little bit. I tried to figure out how to bike, with a 10 year old a 20 mile round trip. I put my name out there for carpooling; but the upshot is, I needed a car.
And I got one - thanks to some help from my DKos angels. The generosity amazed me, and I was able to get my car, keep working and continue going!

A picture of my 'new' car is listed on this blog site.
I hope to get back to writing poverty diaries soon; it's an issue that I have a lot of first-hand experience with and it's an issue of vital importance to our nation. I had to first shore up my resources and make my life strong, and without you folks here at the Daily Kos, that might not have been possible. In fact, I don't even want to think of what the other possibilities would have been, as they are behind me now.
With Barack Obama in the White House, I know this country can get back on track to being the nation I know we are deep down inside. A nation that thinks it's a crime that a veteran sleeps on its streets and is willing to put action, money and time behind that belief. A nation that is willing to help lift people out of poverty so that the American dream, the American promise - can be fulfilled. I believe in these basic tenets and I will do everything I can do to help elect Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States.w
Again, you all have my deepest thanks - you've made me feel a member of a family, surrounded by people who actually care and act upon that compassion - and I appreciate all you've done.
UPDATE:
Here are some things we are doing, though we don't have much money, to help get Barack Obama elected:
Attending a Barack Obama event at Lightning Salvage here on 9/6/08 (a long story, but it's not quite a salvage yard - it's attached to a great pizza place, Satchel's, and it's more of a place to listen to live music, etc.). It's an event that is primarily for children - face painting, balloons and the like. I'm taking my daughter. :)
It's my first Barack Obama event that I'm actually going to attend. With the transportation issues, I had to back out of attending the others, as I couldn't get a ride.
Also, we managed to conserve enough electricity this month to equal a $25 donation to the Obama campaign. And with the good mileage I'm getting on my car, my fuel bill is going down so I might be able to do that again once or twice more before November! Yay!
And after we got the new car, the first thing my daughter did, after helping me clean it, was put on our Obama '08 sticker we got free from Moveon.org.
:)
