WHNT-TV in Huntsville, Alabama, has a report on what they refer to as "new details" in the case of Democrat former Alabama governor Don Siegelman and the party's response to the targeting and prosecution of him by Rove and the Bush administration's Department of Justice.
Pelosi is quoted as saying to Siegelman that "we will hold Rove in contempt." The article also quotes House Judiciary chairman John Conyers as assuring Siegelman "we're not done with him yet." We shall see.
While I was blogging at the convention last week in Denver, I ran into the governor three times as he made the rounds in his continued attempt to get accountability for this corrupt chapter in the story of the Bush administration. The governor - who remains free on appeal of his conviction - told me his main message and concern right now is: "We working to have Karl Rove held in contempt." I am hoping for even more, of course - indictment.
Below is some of the News Channel 19 article, as well as a photo of Siegelman with Pelosi (and also one of me!)
Siegelman told the television station that he is "still calling members of Congress everyday," and has set up a website ContemptForRove.com, as part of this effort.
Pelosi's Promise to Siegelman at Democratic Convention
NewsChannel 19's Greg Privett reports
September 2, 2008
New details in a high profile case of politics and prosecution. Democrat Don Siegelman has good news from last week's Democratic National Convention. Be sure to see the accompanying photo from Denver. You can see Governor Siegelman on the left, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the right, and Democratic activist Pam Miles in the middle.
Miles tells NewsChannel 19, about the time the picture was snapped, Pelosi promised Governor Siegelman, "We will hold rove in contempt".
The House Judiciary committee voted in July to charge the former Bush White House strategist with comtempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena to testify. Now it's up to the full house, which reconvenes later this month.
House Judiciary chairman John Conyers was also talking in Denver about Rove. Conyers assured Siegelman, "We're not done with him yet".
Here's the governor with Democratic Activist Pam Miles and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
And just for the heck of it, and to help prove there is still much netroot support for the governor's situation, here I am (representing and blogging for Democratic Underground) with the governor in The Big Tent.
