At what point are Colin Powell, Brent Scowcroft, Jim Baker and the other Republican brahmin going to weigh in on the new potential leader of the free world?
And will the media be cowed by the Republican's "avoid scrutiny" stategy?
It is generally understood that the Republican party has been taken over by religious zealots. But what has become of the fiscal conservatives and foreign policy realists that used to run the party? There must be SOME Republicans left with their integrity intact.
What do they make of Palin's duplicity in scrambling for pork for Wasilla and the Ketchikan bridge, while falsely claiming to be a reformer on earmarks? What do those who actually know and care that we live in a dangerous world think about Palin becoming the leader of the free world?
These people have largely held their tongues as they've watched George W. run our economy and foreign policy into a ditch. Despite the Republican/Fox News talking points, these people must surely realize that a former president of the Harvard Law Review, 8-year member of the Illinois State Senate, and 4-year member of the US Senate - who received 18 million primary votes - is more equipped than Palin (no need to recap her lack of experience) to manage the most complex organization in the world.
And on a separate but related subject, are we going to wait for the vice-presidential debate to hear Palin's response to detailed questions from the media? She can memorize talking points and stall for that one evening?
Is Palin going to go one-on-one with Brokaw, Scheiffer, Olbermann, Chris Matthews or even Chris Wallace? Will George and Charlie get a chance to grill her with the same aggression they used to go after Obama during the debates? Or is the RNC going to hide her from the media behind the silly claim that they're too biased and mean?
Does McCain's having canceled his interview with that old meany Larry King (because Campbell Brown didn't roll over for Tucker Bounds) mean that the Republicans are hunkering down against the Dems and their "allies" the media?
And most importantly, is the traditional media going to let them get away with it?
We'll see...
