I'm reluctant to post this diary, because I haven't contributed in awhile and my last diary I was slamming Hillary Clinton during the primaries(...who might I add as a side note has redeemed herself in my eyes in spades during the convention...)and I don't want to come off as anti-female or as a misogynist...
But after digesting the news surrounding Sarah Palin pick for the past few days and viewing the Republican Convention last night...I come away concerned especially after watching a Minister go off on a rant on MSNBC earlier today...
Whether or not McCain vetted the pick is really a side issue, the question is who vetted the pick and why...and what is their agenda...
Let's face it I think prior to the Democratic Convention if McCain had his druthers he would have picked Lieberman...
The solid pick would have been Romney or Meg Whitman
Here's the thing I was watching the RNC Convention...and the Fred Thompson speech brought on a realization I hadn't thought of before...which makes the McCain pick even crazier...
Here's a man who's 72 years old, battled cancer twice...likes to tout his mother as an example of his longevity...but the thing is his mother didn't spend 5 years in a POW camp...Thompson made mention of the fact that McCain couldn't even raise his arms to salute the American Flag because of the torture he endured and we've all seen the pictures of how beat up he was during his stay...the point being is that he has had tremendous stress on his body externally and internally...one has to be realistic at some point and realize this guy is on borrowed time...so why Palin..who put her there and why...?
As I was watching this speech, I recalled an article that I read in the Huffington Post earler in the day and it started me to thinking...
Huff Article
During the primaries much ado was made about Obama and Reverend Wright and what was called radical teachings in this article there are some pretty strong comments made by Palins Minister that I find far more alarming then anything Rev. Wright has said and I'm wondering why the MSM hasn't been more diligent in reporting it...here are some examples...
"...Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode..."
Months after hinting at possible damnation for Kerry supporters, Kalnins bristled at the treatment President Bush was receiving over the federal government's handling of Hurricane Katrina. "I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."
Here's a comment from Palin about her church...
Clearly, however, Palin views the church as the source of an important, if sometimes politically explosive, message. "Having grown up here, and having little kids grow up here also, this is such a special, special place," she told the congregation in June. "What comes from this church I think has great destiny."
I mean this is America and everybody has the right to their religion and I respect that...but doesn't that strike anyone as a little bit extreme...I mean vote for my candidate or rot in hell...it would seem that, it should at least justify having the Churches non-exempt status revoked or is it just me...? Or in Palin's case my intrepation is that anything that comes out of that church is destiny...is it me or is that troubling to anyone else...
Here's some other comments that I found extremely troubling...
He preaches repeatedly about the "end times" or "last days," an apocalyptic prophesy held by a small but vocal group of Christian leaders. During his appearance with Palin in June, he declared, "I believe Alaska is one of the refuge states in the last days, and hundreds of thousands of people are going to come to the state to seek refuge and the church has to be ready to minister to them."
He also claims to have received direct "words of knowledge" from God, providing him information about past events in other people's lives. During one sermon, he described being paired with a complete stranger during a golf outing. "I said, I'm a minister from Alaska and I want you to know that your wife left you -- you know that your wife left you and that the Lord is gonna defend you in a very short time, and it wasn't your fault. And the man drops his clubs, he literally was about to tee off and he dropped his clubs, and he says, 'Who the blank are you?' And I says, 'well, I'm a minister.' He says, 'how do you know about my life? What do you know?' And I started giving him more of the word of knowledge to his life and he was freaked out."
The last quotes are extremely troubling, here's why if you have ever watched documentaries about the likes of Jim Jones, David Koresh of the Branch Davidians and others like them...they all have the same dialogue, they have all sequestered their "flocks" to very remote areas...the similarities are striking...
Another thought I had was haven't we spent the last seven years and lost 4000 +/- American lives, and spent millions of dollars fighting this kind of religious extremism in the name of protecting Americans...what's the difference here...? Shouldn't the vetting process protected us from her in the case of the death of McCain...it's a little unnerving
I asked myself is it because she's an American that makes it ok...and I came to the conclusion that no it wasn't because Obama was skewered for months in the press because of his association with Rev. Wright for 20 years...even though there was no evidence of him being in Church when these sermons occurred...
Here the author of the article if I'm not mistaken actually puts her in church when these sermons are made and she has been a member for 20+ years...so why is she not getting the same amount of scrutiny that Obama received....I find her and the comments far more extreme than Wright and Obama...
With McCain being as fragile as he appears on the surface, because I have seen no indication his medical records have been reviewed, there's a good chance he may not make 4 to 8 years in office...
This country will be left with a non-vetted religious extremist in the White House who in her limited political career who has already made a run at book censorship and when you tie in her connection with AIP....and it get's a little scary at the thought of her possibly being President...
It makes you wonder what is America being setup for in these uncertain times and by whom and why...what is the agenda here...
Just from reading the Huffington Post article it would seem like she would need to at least pass a psychological exam before she's allowed access to National Security issues and the such...I mean we have met folks like her and sometimes the elevator doesn't always reach the top...is a mental exam too much too ask...?
Well that's all thanks for reading... hope I conveyed what I was thinking, I think it's more a sanity check on my part...I don't really think people are thinking this through Republicans or Democrats and I'm surprised that the MSM is letting it slide considering what Obama had to go through with his Minister...
But hey I may be the crazy one...
MMaybe not....redemption...looks like all is not well in paradise
Just a tidbit
