The entire Murphy/Noonan off-mic moment has perfectly played into the McCain campaign's Palin vs. the media campaign. Intentional or not, the fact that this little moment, acted out so brilliantly by willing right-wing media types is spreading throughout the world plays perfectly into the hands of the McCain campaign
Palin vs. the media will be a mini-theme in her speech tonight. It works every time the Republicans need a scape goat. Best of all for them, it plays both ways. It can generate votes from their base and if it doesn't generate enough of those votes they can blame that press for the loss -- placating their donors.
The Murphey and Noonan episode works perfectly because of one brilliant stroke by Murphey; he BLAMES ROVE AND TEXAS POLITICS. Who better to have one of those "dirty media types" talk smack on but the Rove political contingent of Texas. It's a safe scapegoating for Murphey and Noonan to blame Rove and his ilk for the problems. The story goes like this: "Murphy and Noonan are just more media types. Even THEY can't be trusted. And worst of all their attacking Sarah and blaming Republicans."
As stunning a revelation we all think this clip is, I'm afraid it just plays right into the Palin vs. the Media Goliath fiction.
