Tonight at the Republican Convention, Rudy Giuliani set fire to the house. But, he also made a huge mistake. He ridiculed Obama and Biden for not having "executive experience" and praised Palin for having it as Governor and Mayor.
But this very praise raises the Big Question: what "executive experience" does John McCain have?
Tonight at the Republican Convention, Rudy Giuliani got the Republican faithful on their feet, hooting and deriding Barack Obama and Joe Biden, by making the claim that neither man is qualified for the Oval Office because they lack "executive experience." That is, neither has ever managed a department, handled a budget, or made executive decisions.
In the same breath, Giuliani made a huge deal out of Sarah Palin's "executive experience," as though running the State of Alaska is a prime qualification for moving into the Oval Office.
Alhough Giuliani meant to defend Sarah Palin against her critics, he also unwittingly ripped a huge hole in the floor under John McCain. By the glaring emphasis on "executive experience" as a requirement for assuming office, it raises the Big Question: does John McCain have "executive experience?"
Here's a brief McCain resume:
*) Born to a family of Admirals. Attended private schools.
*) Graduated from Annapolis, 894 out or 899 (bottom of his class).
*) Shot down in Vietnam. 5-1/2 years in captivity.
*) After the way, returned to the Navy. Acted as a Liason to Congress.
*) Left the Navy. Divorced his wife and married Cindy (heiress to the Budweiser fortune).
*) Moved to Arizona. Elected to the House of Representives.
*) Quickly moved up to the Senate. Been in the Senate 20+ years.
Now you tell me: where in all these years is McCain's "executive experience???????"
There is none.
By Giuliani's own standards, McCain doesn't have what it takes to be President. And no neophyte 2-year Governor of a geographically large but sparsely populated state can make up for that lack as Vice President.
As I am writing this post, I hear Brian Williams on MSNBC make this exact same point.
What McCain does have is BUSH'S BLESSING. Last night, Bush explicitly "passed the baton" to John McCain.
Think about it.
Bush blesses him, but by the GOP's own measure, McCain doesn't have what it takes to be President.
"Knocked by Giuliani, Blessed by Bush."
"A Clone Without Qualifications."
Looks like a barn-wide opening to me. Let's hope the Democrats ram a cement truck through it.
