Here are some community organizations:
Christian Coalition
Focus on the Family
Family Research Council
It could be argued that the Anbar Awakening (which has been just as important as the additional American men and women in uniform in Iraq) is a community organization.
When I lived in a small town in Colorado (I ran for school board, and lost, but in the process got almost 4x the number of votes that secured Governor Palin her mayorality), I was a member of a group of people who wanted to raise money to build a larger library. That was a community organization.
Now I belong to my neighborhood organization. I help people who don't know how to deal with the city bureaucracy contact the city arborist, advocate for brush removal to help kids who are walking to school get there more safely, arrange neighborhood garage sales, etc.
How hypocritical is it to demean all of the people all over the country who contribute to the betterment of their children, their neighbor's children, and their neighbors.
Does Sarah Palin realize that by speaking derogatorily about community organizers and organizations, that she's extinguishing those thousand points of light?
Habitat for Humanity
The PTA
Boy Scouts
These are all, to some extent, community organizations; they're groups of people with a common goal who get together to donate their time and their energy for the betterment of all.
Here are some political goals of community organizers:
Feminism (without which Governor Palin might have had some difficulty getting elected Governor of Alaska)
Here is a famous community organizer:
Dr. Martin Luther King
So, Sarah Palin belittles community organizers and McCain votes against giving Dr. King a holiday. How non-ironic.
Oh, and of course the Civil Rights Movement. That was sure a waste of time.
No, seriously, do Senator McCain and Governor Palin understand that to belittle community organizations is also to belittle the things many, many take pride in in their lives, activities all across the country in towns both large and small? Some of whom are even white people?
