As I watch this convention, it has become increasingly bizarre to me that the GOP have offered absolutely nothing in the way of specifics as to what you get if you vote for them.
What is their plan? Will McCain provide specifics as Obama did? Will anyone attempt to empathize with voters' economic concerns? What are they doing?
I suppose if Rick Davis is accurately representing their campaign's beliefs, and they truly believe this election is "not about the issues" then it makes sense to not address any of them.
But honestly, does anyone know why they haven't at least covered their ass with some kind of shout out to the insecurities of the middle class voter? Nothing at all about health care? I'm not saying this to attack them, the way Obama might in a town hall, but because I'm really very puzzled here.
Rove loved the attack as much as anyone, but he invented a whole host of phony policies for Bush (compassionate conservatism, faith based outreach, ownership society) and one actual one (Medicare Prescription Drug Benefits)to win the votes of pocketbook minded citizens. Nothing so far from the GOP, and even if every speech from 6 PM till McSame knocks the ballons off his head is a laundry list of wonk-meat, it'll still be the most policy light convention ever.
Also, aren't they at all worried about attacking Washington, even as it is there party that has been in Washington? Mitt Romney said the change we need is to replace the liberals with conservatives. But the liberals were only in Congress for a year and a half. So he wants to go back to 2005? That's supposed to solve the problems? It makes no sense at all.
I understand that the Republicans have now done a 180 and are re running the 2004 campaign. (the 2000 campaign was actually fairly bland and substantive) I understand they just want to drive Obama's negatives up by baiting the "silent majority." But do they really think that, by itself, unaided by any other argument expect McCain's biography, is enough to win?
Is it?
I genuinely don't know and would love some insight on what to me looks like the strategy of a psychopath.
