Numerous comments and quite a few diaries have appeared here since last night in response to the disparaging comments about community organizers that GOP leaders dished out yesterday.
Among them is the wonderful photo-tutorial by BonnieSchlitz that is currently on the rec list which points out that, among other things, one of the greatest figures in our recent history, Dr. Martin Luther King, was a community organizer. Bonnie's diary does not mention this, but in fact, Dr. King was killed while in Memphis, Tennessee, to help refuse disposal workers fighting for better job conditions.
My purpose is not to repeat previous diaries but for the benefit of those out there, especially Rethugs and their media mouthpieces who have been chaffing at DailyKos these past few days, I thought it'd be nice to state again, loud and clear that:
We of DailyKos are proud of community organizers.
We of the Democratic Party, the party that truly cares and lives by what it preaches, we are proud of community organizers.
We who support Barack Obama and his mission to renew America and bring help to the needy are proud of community organizers.
If you are a community organizer out there plodding the sidewalk and plugging in those endless hours to renew and sustain your community, please know that unlike the party of do as I say but not as I do, the party of read my lips but don't follow my action, the party that shouts the name of Jesus and then turns around and mocks those who bring help and hope to struggling families in times of hardship, we are proud of you.
For others who are reading this, tip your hat once more for a community organizer you know or one that you don't know but who's out there nonetheless, making real difference in people's lives.
