Tonight my mom, sister and I attended the opening of the East Bay Obama Headquarters in Berkeley. After watching the RNC on TV today, where the audience resembled a crowd of deflated vampires, it was a welcome change. The range of lively Obama supporters was incredible: first-time voters in high school, families with children, professionals in business suits, retirees and folks from every background imaginable.
I'm so glad to see these headquarters open up. The enthusiasm for Obama in the Berkeley/ Oakland area is huge, and I am ecstatic to say I haven't seen a McCain sign, sticker or button anywhere yet! But that doesn't mean there isn't work for us to do. I hope that those of us who are lucky enough to live in liberal cities and areas like the Bay Area can remember that other regions of the country aren't experiencing the same kind of landslide enthusiasm for the Obama campaign. Just because everyone we know is registered and voting democratic this year doesn't mean our work is done!
With only 60 days left, let's reach out to people outside our familiar neighborhoods and make history! I'll see you in Nevada.
For your entertainment, here is a clip of the youngest and most inspired Obama supporters I saw this evening:
Even if you're far from voting age, YES WE CAN!
