Sarah Palin threw red meat to the right, started a cultural war, and got the blood pumping in every neo conservative's heart. But tonight John McCain threw a wet blanket on it all with a rambling, incomprehensible speech, delivered with no energy, no passion, and no logic.
Barack Obama set the bar very high last week, higher than practically any previous candidate, a speech based on hope, vision, compassion, civility, cooperation, and commitment, drawing and building on a long history of civilization.
Last night Sarah Palin, reading from the right wing teleprompter, energized the base and suggested to the Republican party that maybe, after all, there was hope. Her hope was built on a hatred of others, intolerance, personal attacks, and the same old tired political attacks that have kept the Republicans in power the last 8 years. The red meat that these people live on.
But McCain fell flat.
The speech boiled down to one sentence: "Senator Obama does not have scars, and I do."
What a terrible mistake to nominate a candidate for VP who is better than you. And what a stupid move to have a droning weak speech that focuses on war, war, violence, fighting and war.
History has annointed him to save his country in its hour of need?
What a joke. He wants us to fight, fight fight! More violence.
Is this really the best the Republican Party can do?
I am no longer worried about this election.
