This is a copy of a letter I send today to the editors of many local and national newspapers. If expands on my previous Dairy entry, "Pitt-bull in Lipstick."
I watched Sarah Palin's speech on Wednesday night. While she completely distorted her biography and achievements, and fired many cheap, below the belt shots at Senator Obama, she completely failed to disclose her real position on many important issues:
Palin believes that the war in Iraq is "God's task," and here I thought Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were to blame for this extremely costly (both financially and in lives lost) imperialist debacle.
Palin has recently supported the Alaska Independence Party which advocates a vote of secession from the United States; now isn't that putting country first?
Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools; sorry but I want my children to learn science not mythology.
Palin doesn't believe in global warming; yet the Eskimos had to invent a new word, they had never seen a robin before. She should be happy, in fifty years Alaska might be the new Mediterranean.
Palin is rabid pro-life even in cases of incest and rape, which is just plain obscene. If my wife or daughters were raped would I want them to be forced to keep the child? Absolutely not!
Palin is opposed to stem cell research even though her running mate, John McCain supports it. Other countries are leaving us behind in this important field of medical research.
Palin opposes sex education in schools except for abstinence; gee, that really didn't work so well in her daughter's case did it?
Palin claims she was opposed the "Bridge to Nowhere," when in fact she supported it until it was politically expedient to flip flop; she kept the federal money for Alaska though, nothing like having a big slush fund.
Palin claims to have fought against big oil, yet BP sponsored her inauguration as governor. And her only solution to the energy crisis is drill, drill, drill. And she has no regard for endangered species like the polar bear or the preservation of wilderness areas like the ANWAR.
As mayor of Wassila, Palin pressured the local librarian to ban certain "offensive" books and even threatened to fire her when she refused; this scares me most of all as it is one of the first symptoms of fascism at its worst: censorship and abuse of power.
And every time someone criticizes Palin, they get an angry litany of Republican talking points including being accused of sexism. Yet she paraded her "off limits" family around the stage after the speech like a bunch of trained monkeys.
Pitt-bull with lipstick? Hardly. More like Pat Buchanan in a skirt. God help us if McCain gets elected and then dies in office!
