Gen. Wesley Clark (ret.) joined Democrats Work and Lt. Col. Charlie Brown (ret.) today to create care packages for U.S. Marines deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in downtown Roseville, CA. About 150 volunteers joined Clark and Brown in building 200 packages that will be sent to Marines to make their lives a little easier.

About 150 volunteers organized by Charlie Brown and Democrats Work met this morning to stuff packets to be sent to Marines who are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Volunteers brought items to include. These included food, entertainment, personal items and other things that would come in handy for our soldiers, including small toys and games that could be used or given out by them. Volunteers also wrote personal letters to send to the troops.
Thomas Bates, organizer of Democrats Work, welcomed Clark and Brown to the event. Both Brown and Clark spoke briefly about the session.

Gen. Clark said that this was perhaps "the happiest day" he’d had since launching his presidential campaign, and praised the organizers who came to him and suggested these events.

After the session, many of the volunteers stayed to talk.

It only took about an hour to completely pack all the boxes available. Volunteers brought a surplus of items, and organizers said they would try to get additional boxes to send the remainder to the troops.
Democrats Work is an organization that calls Democrats to take on service projects. (I’m not connected with this organization; we just participated in the event.)
